Banana Split For Breakfast

A classic banana split consists of bananas, ice cream, and sugar-laden toppings. A healthy banana split uses this same basic formula, it just incorporates wholesome, all-natural ingredients. While bananas on their own are nutritiously healthy, we love to combine them with cottage cheese, berries, and nuts to make a “dessert-like” meal that is healthy enough to eat for breakfast or lunch but tastes sinfully like an after-dinner treat. In fact, our Cottage Cheese Banana Split is the perfect complete balanced breakfast option because it is loaded with calcium-rich protein from cottage cheese, satiating fiber from bananas, strawberries, and blueberries, healthy fats from nuts, and complex carbs from berries. Protein-packed dairy and bone-building calcium makes any dish more nutritious which is why using flavorful cottage cheese is the perfect ice cream swap in our recipe. We love the taste of banana mixed with the creamy cold texture of cottage cheese, combined with the naturally sweet and tart flavors of antioxidant-rich fresh berries, and topped with crunchy walnuts. Our Cottage Cheese Banana Split provides so much nutritious fuel to power you through your day. We make breakfast anything but boring when served dessert style.

Nutrient Booster: Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is packed with essential nutrients, such as B vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, and selenium. It is an excellent source of casein protein which promotes muscle gain, helps prevent muscle breakdown and is slower digesting than whey protein. The high protein content helps with satiety and is an excellent post-workout food. Like the calcium present in this cheese, its phosphorus content is important for healthy bones and teeth and works with the B vitamins for proper kidney, nerve, and muscle function. Cottage cheese can also protect against insulin resistance and heart disease and it provides antioxidant protection. We love using Daisy cottage cheese in our banana split recipe because it contains only three natural ingredients without adding artificial preservatives. The rich, creamy taste of cottage cheese is the perfect complement to your favorite fruits, nuts, or vegetables and makes any meal a nutritious powerhouse.

Build Your Own Banana

We love banana splits, especially when they are made with healthy, all-natural ingredients. While our version of this health-ified “treat” includes cottage cheese, berries, and nuts, it is so easy to build your own variation. Greek yogurt or Icelandic Provisions Skyr provides a similar creamy, dairy and protein-rich layer to cover the banana slices. Any fruit you fancy tastes great with your protein choice too. For extra sweetness and nutrition, top your split with World of Chia Fruit Spread or drizzle it with nut butter. And for more crunchy nutrients, sprinkle SuperSeedz Pumpkin Seeds, chia seeds or Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts on top of your breakfast creation. Breakfast tastes even better when you build it yourself!
