35 Heart Healthy Avocado Recipes

February is heart month, and we couldn’t be more excited! In honor of this special month, Fresh Avocados–Love One Today has teamed up to support The American Heart Association‘s Healthy For Good movementAs part of the Healthy for Good movement, +color is the American Heart Association’s newest initiative designed to challenge Americans to add one more cup, 2 servings, of colorful fruits and vegetables to their diet every day. This endeavor has the potential to limit deaths from cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and diabetes. That’s why American Heart Association and Fresh Avocados – Love One Today are inviting Americans to join in this transformative effort and encouraging others to start today.

The American Heart Association recommends an overall healthy eating pattern that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, and whole grains; includes low-fat dairy products, poultry, fish, legumes, non-tropical oils, and nuts; and limits sweets, sugar-sweetened beverages, sodium and red meats. Fresh avocados can be part of this healthy eating pattern, as avocados are one of the few fresh fruits with mono and polyunsaturated fats. In fact, over 75% of the fat in avocados is “good fat”, making them a great substitute for foods high in saturated fats. Avocados are also cholesterol, sugar, and sodium free and are a good source of fiber, contributing 11% DV to the diet per 50 g serving. Consuming foods rich in fiber may reduce the risk of heart disease.

So, to help promote heart health, we asked some of our RD friends to share their favorite avocado recipes with us. Thanks to the avocados, these dishes are all filled with omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, but they are also teeming with a plethora of fresh produce and lean proteins. We can’t wait to try them out!
